ICA Symposium on Natural Fitness Features
Special NFL Athlete presence and Unique Award to Arnold Schwarzenegger

The International Chiropractors Association (ICA) Council on Fitness and Sports Health Science hosted the acclaimed Annual ICA Symposium on Natural Fitness and Sports for the 24th consecutive year with the world's most famous chiropractic patient, former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, as keynote speaker.  Presenting in Columbus, Ohio over March 3-5, 2016 with a powerful array of chiropractic educators including clinical presentations by Frederick R. Carrick, DC, PhD, John Brimhall, DC, DIBAK, and John Downes, DC, CCEP, the lineup incorporated an exceptional series of speakers that also featured NFL athletes Michael Haynes, MA, Sam Madison, and Darryl Tapp, bringing their special insights, information and experience to the program.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was recognized for his lifetime of commitment to community service following his keynote presentation at this international event, highlighting his inspiring leadership for people everywhere making a difference in their communities through supporting individuals and groups working to advance health and fitness.  He was presented with a special Civil War-era sword and framed certificate honoring his contributions in these critical public health areas.   A strong advocate of chiropractic care for people of all ages, Governor Schwarzenegger spoke about his observations and personal experiences with chiropractic’s value and significance from the podium. He noted that his partnership with the International Chiropractors Association shared a vision and commitment to work for health “on a world-wide level, on a global level,” sharing also that “I’d like to promote fitness on a global level –because people need to be fit all over the world and this is what the Arnold Fitness Weekend is about.  It’s all about promoting health and fitness.”

Sharing his thoughts about the importance of chiropractic care, he also spoke about his own personal experience with chiropractic, recognizing the care he and his family received throughout the years, and highlighting his appreciation of its ability to help people on many levels:

“This is why it is so important to have you as our partners, because your whole goal is to reach out and to help people get healthier.  This is the great thing about chiropractic – not only when someone has an injury or a problem, they come to the chiropractor.  That’s not the only thing you do; you give them advice on how not to get injured and how they got sick in the first place – this is why you are so good for prevention also.”

Arnold then presented the Fitness Council’s Legacy Award -- which was developed by the Council leadership to honor and recognize Arnold’s legacy of leadership and inspiration in fitness and sports -- to Mr. Ken Podziba for his dedicated leadership in community service, including his tenure as New York sports commissioner and his development of the popular Bike New York.  He next presented Dr. Joseph Amunategui,  II with a special award recognizing his years of service to the ICA Council on Fitness and Sports Health Science including his leadership as a Board member of that organization, and for his dedicated work with sports and chiropractic in his community with the ICA Sports Chiropractor of the Year award.

The program, full of presentations highlighting key advances in training and exercise, and emphasizing chiropractic’s unique aspects for both maintaining optimal health and advancing fitness and healthy, active lifestyle choices with patients of all ages, was presided over by ICA Fitness Council Chair, Dr. Pete Gratale who served as Master of Ceremonies for the 24 th Annual Symposium.  The program also featured ICA Fitness Council and Symposium founder Jack Barnathan, DC, MFS, MSS, who presented with Jack Wlody and Corinne Wlody (who received the Council’s Legacy Award from Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2015), and Ken Podziba, President of Bike New York and former NY Sports Commissioner, who had just been presented with the Legacy Award for 2016 from Mr. Schwarzenegger.  The Symposium 2016 faculty also featured Dr. Perry Nickelston, Dr. Ray Barone, Dr. Rich Gennaro, Dr. Coralee Van Egmond, and Debi Darnell, bringing extra insights, information and experience to the program.
